Making your own lighting equipment?

I am trying to get started in Professional Photography but i do not have a studio yet. Right now i can only do pictures on location or outdoors. I have had other people look at my photos and they all say i need more lighting because of the shadows on the faces.
Can anyone tell me how to make my own lighting equipment that i could use outdoors or indoors? Or reflectors?

In case you’re interested, here’s a link to some of my photos:

The problem I see with your photos is that you placed the subject in the middle of the sun light–mid day.

Cloudy day–or under the shade. Try something like this:

Canon 100 mm f 2.8 macro

And you need not be so close to the subjects. For example, the one called DSC4498, you’re too close to them–step away from them, and zoom in the fill the frame. Focal length of 35 mm is not good for portrait.

Reflector would be helpful, but you can’t do all this by yourself
